I have found in my fifty years of business that there is a specific type of person who succeeds. Admittedly there are many levels of success, but I’m talking about the top level. Ultimate success.
What is ultimate success? Only you can answer this question for yourself.
Whatever it is, only you can achieve it for yourself.
As in anything worth achieving:
- There is a path that must be taken.
- There are details to be planned.
- There are obstacles to be overcome.
- There is a target that must be hit dead center (for this post–I am using target market for book marketing).
All of these are important–even the obstacles.
Everything is moving– everything but the target.
The one thing in life that one can count on is change. There is always change.
Also, in my fifty years of business experience, I have observed three kinds of people:
- Those who are overwhelmed by the forest.
These are overwhelmed by the magnitude of the task. They either lack confidence in themselves or they lack confidence in the proven system. Either way, they are frozen at the starting line and mentally give up.
- Those who are overwhelmed by the details.
These are the ones who look at the amount of detail–the work–that must be accomplished. They determine that it is too much–the return on their investment is not enough to go all the way.
They do not understand that they are in charge of setting their success. So if the return isn’t great enough, they fail to understand they can increase the greatness. Instead, they freeze in place or the quit along the way.
- Those who are able to look through the details, the forest, and see the target.
These are the ones who fix their eye on the target. They cut through the details of the plan, cut through the obstacles and hit the target dead center.
Nothing stops them. No one discourages them. No obstacle is too large.
They persist.
